Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
As announced in the May 28 issue of the newsletter, a series of seminars led by an international panel of experts is currently under way, from June 3 to 30, in connection with the Women and Science program. The seminars explore three major themes:
• Tackling prejudice to strengthen our scientific activity
• Reviewing the current situation on gender equality in scientific circles
• Improving well-being in the workplace and the careers of female scientists
Four seminars have already taken place since the beginning of the month and the opening session led by Stewart Cole, President, Carla Saleh, Head of the Viruses and RNA Interference Unit and patron of the event, the organizing committee and Arturo Casadevall, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor, Alfred and Jill Sommer Professor, and Chair of the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The sessions, covering the topics "Tackling prejudice to strengthen our scientific activity" and "Reviewing the current situation on gender equality in scientific circles," have proven very popular, demonstrating the interest in a subject described by Stewart Cole at the opening session as "a priority of the 2019-2023 Strategic Plan" and "a key moment in the life of the Institut Pasteur."
You can watch the past sessions by signing up to the dedicated Teams channel for the event, which already has nearly 350 registered users. All the recorded lectures are available via the channel and will remain accessible for the entire summer.
Check out the program and note the dates of the upcoming sessions, and make sure you don't miss the closing session, which will take place on June 30 with Londa Schiebinger, Professor of History of Science at Stanford University and Director of the EU/US "Gendered Innovations in Science, Health & Medicine, Engineering and Environment" Project, Odile Hermabessiere, Vice-President Human Resources, and Christophe d'Enfert, Scientific Director. The closing session is set to be a memorable event, during which Londa Schiebinger will explain how science can become more inspiring and innovative by incorporating notions of sex, gender and intersectionality; she will also present the Gendered Innovations Project, led in collaboration with some 200 experts from all over the world.
