Discover the Institut Pasteur's “Communication on Commitment,” a concrete overview of Pasteur's long-term commitment

In January 2026, the Institut Pasteur published its full Communication on Engagement (COE) for 2023–2024, a key document that formalizes and publicly states its commitment to sustainable development within the framework of the United Nations Global Compact.

The COE is an official statement through which organizations participating in the Global Compact inform their stakeholders of the actions they have taken to implement the ten principles of the Global Compact relating to human rights, labor standards, the environment, and anti-corruption. Published on the Global Compact website, it is a strong marker of transparency and commitment.

Structured around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN's 2030 Agenda, the Institut Pasteur's COE provides an inventory of the concrete actions taken in recent years, particularly in the areas of environmental protection, teaching and research, diversity, equity and inclusion, and social responsibility. It also highlights numerous recent projects carried out by teams on campus and within the network.

This document particularly emphasizes Scientific Priority 2 of the Pasteur 2030 strategic plan – Environmental Transitions and Health – by illustrating in a very operational way how the institute integrates societal, climatic, and environmental issues into its scientific missions.

Highlighting collective action

A member of the United Nations Global Compact since June 2010, the Institut Pasteur publishes a COE every two years to report on the progress made. A first version of the COE, focusing on the environment, was already published on April 22, 2025, on Earth Day. The January 2026 publication marks the completion of the full version covering all commitments for 2023–2024.

Beyond a reporting exercise, the COE is a tool for highlighting collective actions and a reference for understanding the Institut Pasteur's contribution to major international sustainable development issues.
