On Tuesday January 27, in a packed Émile Duclaux lecture hall, the Institut Pasteur held the first lecture in the "Art & Science" series, organized as part of Scientific Priority 1 of the Pasteur 2030 Strategic Plan, "Infectious disease threats," and open to the general public.

The evening was hosted by Aude Bernheim and Olivier Schwartz, co-leaders of Scientific Priority 1. It began by outlining the Institut Pasteur's missions and presenting the speakers.

In her lecture "Viruses against bacteria: a solution for antibiotic resistance?", Pascale Cossart offered an introduction to bacteria and explored the challenges of antibiotic resistance and the potential of phage therapy. As she was speaking, the artist Fabrice Hyber produced art in real time that was shown on screen for the audience, offering an illustration of the microscopic world in drawings.

The event was a great success with the audience. It concluded with an open discussion and a signing session in the Duclaux hall during which attendees had a further opportunity to speak to Pascale Cossart and Fabrice Hyber.

This first event marked the successful launch of the “Art & Science” series, which combines research, artistic creation and dialog with society.

The lecture was organized by the leaders of the scientific priority 1 and the Scientific Programming and Incentive Actions Department (SPAIS), with the support of the Department of Communications and Public Affairs and the Department of Philanthropy. It received funding from the ANR SAPS-CSTI grant for scientific outreach.
