Postoperative pain: the power of morphine without the side effects

Opiorphin, and a stabilized form of opiorphin known as STR-324, are just as effective as morphine for the treatment of postoperative pain. But these two molecules do not have the same worrying side effects as morphine, such as cardiorespiratory problems. This discovery was made in animals; the first trials in humans should begin at the end of 2017.

These findings by scientists from Gustave Roussy, Inserm, Paris-Sud University, the Paris Public Hospital Network (Bicêtre Hospital) and the Institut Pasteur were published in the November 2016 issue of Anesthesiology.
