• Appointment of the Acting Vice-President Human Resources
Frédéric Durand was appointed as the Acting Vice-President Human Resources on December 11, 2023.

• New Meta-organism Unit
Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in October 2023, in October 2023 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to establish the Meta-organism (Méta-organisme) Unit as from March 1, 2024.
The unit is part of the Department of Immunology and will be led by Yasmine Belkaid, a Professor at the Institut Pasteur.
The first five-year term of the unit will run through to February 28, 2029.

• New Bacterial Cell Cycle Mechanisms five-year unit (U5)
Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in October 2023, in December 2023 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to establish the Bacterial Cell Cycle Mechanisms (Mécanismes du Cycle Cellulaire Bactérien) five-year unit (U5) as from January 1, 2024, for a non-renewable five-year term.
The unit is part of the Department of Structural Biology and Chemistry and will be led by Anne-Marie Wehenkel, an Expert Research Associate at the Institut Pasteur.

• New Biology of Plasmodium Infection and Transmission five-year unit (U5)
Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in October 2023, in December 2023 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to establish the Biology of Plasmodium Infection and Transmission (Biologie de l'Infection et de la Transmission de Plasmodium) five-year unit (U5) as from January 1, 2024, for a non-renewable five-year term.
The unit is part of the Department of Parasites and Insect Vectors and will be led by Liliana Mancio, an Inserm Research Associate.

• New Computational Structural Biology five-year unit (U5)
Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in October 2023, in December 2023 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to establish the Computational Structural Biology (Biologie Structurale Computationnelle) five-year unit (U5) as from January 1, 2024, for a non-renewable five-year term.
The unit will be part of the Structural Biology and Chemistry Department and will be led by Massimiliano Bonomi, a CNRS Research Director.

• Extension of the term of the Director of the Department of Virology
At its session on December 13, 2023, the Board of Governors renewed the term of Jean-Pierre Vartanian, Director of the Department of Virology (024900), from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2028.

• New Mitochondrial Biology Unit
The Mitochondrial Biology five-year group (024020), led by Timothy Wai, has come to the end of its term and will be closed on December 31, 2023.
Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in October 2023, in December 2023 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to establish the Mitochondrial Biology (Biologie Mitochondriale) Unit as from January 1, 2024.
The unit will be part of the Department of Cell Biology and Infection and will be led by Timothy Wai, a CNRS Research Director.
The first five-year term of the unit will run through to December 31, 2028.

• Re-establishment of the Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Diseases Unit
Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in October 2023, in December 2023 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to re-establish the Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Diseases (Modélisation Mathématique des Maladies Infectieuses) (024522) Unit, keeping the same name, as from January 1, 2024.
The unit is part of the Department of Global Health and will be led by Simon Cauchemez, a Professor at the Institut Pasteur.
The first five-year term of the unit will run through to December 31, 2028.
