The European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept scheme, part of the EU's Horizon Europe framework program, is aimed at scientists who have already been awarded an ERC grant (Starting, Consolidator, Advanced or Synergy) that is still ongoing or ended less than a year ago, who are looking to transfer the results of their research, develop their innovation potential and explore market opportunities. Proof of Concept grants, worth €150,000 for a maximum period of 18 months, support the commercial and social potential of former ERC-funded projects.
Three Proof of Concept rounds were held in 2023, with a total budget of €30 million being awarded to 240 projects.
In the last 2023 Proof of Concept round, the ERC selected 102 projects, including 10 in France. The successful candidates include Lucie Peduto, Head of the Stroma, Inflammation and Tissue Repair Unit, for the REACT project (Reprogramming of Tumor Stroma to Enhance Cancer Immunotherapy), which explores new approaches targeting the tumor microenvironment to improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy in resistant cancer.
