"Public speaking and power in organizations: comparing views and perspectives," May 12

The Department for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is pleased to invite you to a discussion afternoon on May 12 at 3pm in the François Jacob auditorium about public speaking, visibility, and the invisibilization of women and minorities in academic and professional spaces.

Invisibilization is a major challenge in achieving equal opportunities and enabling each and every individual to fulfill their potential. In scientific and academic fields in particular, minorities – especially women – encounter constant obstacles that stop them from accessing spaces where their voice can be heard. These hurdles are the result of systemic biases that both prevent minorities from having opportunities to speak and affect the way in which their contributions are heard and received.

Given this context, the DEI Department is inviting staff to an afternoon featuring two round tables with experts from academia and the private sector. The event will start by examining the structural reasons why minorities face inequities when it comes to public speaking opportunities, and the related systemic challenges, especially at the Institut Pasteur. A second section will look at drivers for action, both individual and collective, to tackle the phenomenon of invisibilization.

The afternoon will feature the following speakers:

•    Marion Paoletti : Political scientist and political science professor at the University of Bordeaux, specializing in power and gender relationships.
•    Mariam Khattab : DCEO of Mozaïk RH and an expert in issues related to diversity and equal opportunities.
•    Mariana Mesel-Lemoine: Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department at the Institut Pasteur.
•    Samira Laamouri : Staff social worker, professional coach and trainer in public speaking.
•    Irène Fasseu : Director for Development and Economic Inclusion and Manager at the Mozaïk Foundation.
•    Mathieu Arbogast : Mission for the role of women in the CNRS

The event will be in French; a video will be available at a later stage.
