Launch of the Organoid project

An organoid or neo-organ is literally a new structure that resembles an organ. Organoids are used in medicine to test new biological functions or molecules or to recreate and visualize the activity of an existing organ within an integrated system.

logo-organoide.png The Institut Pasteur and the artist Fabrice Hyber have joined forces to launch the "Organoid" project, with the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation. The aim of this project is to offer new representations by artists of discoveries, inventions and scientific concepts developed at the Institut Pasteur – or even of equipment, processes, diagrams, techniques, etc.

The idea is to encourage interdisciplinary encounters between artists of all genres and scientists, to give an artists' impression of scientific activities, and to offer an entertaining, educational and original take on the Institut Pasteur's discoveries and the issues surrounding biomedical research.

The artists' impressions, created in the medium of their choice for the Organoid project, will be compiled in an image base that will be made available to the Institut Pasteur for communication purposes to illustrate its research work. These images will be presented on the dedicated website.

An initial series of works will be produced before summer 2015. The first artists taking part in the project, as well as Fabrice Hyber, the project's artistic director, are Hervé di Rosa, Mrzyk & Moriceau, Michel Blazy and Alexandre Echasseriau, all of whom have met several Institut Pasteur scientists.

The official project launch took place July 1st.
