Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
The "Organoid" project, launched in 2014 by the artist Fabrice Hyber and the Institut Pasteur with the support of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, was set up to offer a new perspective on scientific activities through the creation of original, compelling artworks that portray the challenges of biomedical research.
The project soon struck a chord with several artists, all of whom were keen to join in with the current outpouring of generosity to support the Institut Pasteur in its efforts to tackle COVID-19. Fabrice Hyber, Hervé Di Rosa, Nathalie Talec, Barthélémy Toguo, Raphaël Faon, Alexandre Echasseriau, Patrick Rimond, Françoise Petrovitch, ORLAN, George Tony Stoll and Miguel Chevalier all stepped up to the cause.
This wave of creativity in the midst of an unprecedented and uncertain situation has resulted in some unique artworks that may inspire us to change our behavior and, who knows, perhaps throw the virus off course?
Imagined by each artist from a poetic, lyrical, joyful or dramatic perspective, the works make us take stock of our behavior and shed light on the excesses of today's society. The artists were encouraged to give free rein to their imagination for these new works.
And the generosity of some of the artists extends beyond their wonderful creativity: they spontaneously offered to sell their works, with part of the profits going to the Institut Pasteur. The money raised will help support research to tackle the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
