Medical monitoring of biological risks: launch of a new "Health in the workplace" website

A website presenting best practices for medical monitoring of biological risks in research laboratories, aimed at occupational health professionals, has been developed and recently launched by the Institut Pasteur's Occupational Health Department.

Content that addresses the need for standardized practices for medical monitoring of biological risks

The website presents recommendations for medical monitoring of risks (monitoring exposure to pathogens, monitoring the introduction of healthy mosquitoes to insectariums, pre-exposure vaccination, etc.) and emergency situations (first aid and medical assessment for different exposure risks). The comprehensive content also includes information on psychosocial risks.

The result of a collaborative effort

Coordinated by the Institut Pasteur's occupational health physicians, the website is the result of a collaborative effort over three years, in close cooperation with the occupational health departments at the CNRS and Inserm and with the expertise of physicians from the biological risks section at the INRS. The 26 recommendations were all validated on the basis of regulatory texts, bibliographical data and specialist opinions. Around 50 occupational health professionals and infectious disease specialists were involved in proofreading content prepared by the working group.

Several physicians at the Institut Pasteur also offered their expert opinion on the various topics. The website was developed with the support of the Web Department in the Department of Communications. Thank you all for your contribution.
