Results of the 2021 Sustainable Development Challenge

As reflected in its Green Campus program, the Institut Pasteur is acutely aware of the challenges of sustainable development, which are affecting all generations at every level of society. The Institut Pasteur continues to be committed to this issue and has offered its staff the opportunity to engage in a participatory project on campus two months ago.

In May 2021, the Sustainable Development Department, in collaboration with the Graduate Office in the Department of Education and members of the Make Pasteur Greener group, launched a challenge open to all Institut Pasteur staff (employees, students, post-doctoral fellows, etc.) to come up with projects to help the Institut Pasteur respond to future challenges.

The 11 posters submitted were divided into the categories "Working life" (5) and "Consumption habits" (6). The Sustainable Development Department and the members of the panel were impressed with the quality of the proposals, and would like to thank all those who took part.

The posters mainly covered themes such as reducing waste production and rationalizing purchases. These ideas will help us develop new measures to reduce the environmental impact of our activities. The panel made an initial selection of 8 posters (4 for each category). Those behind the shortlisted posters were then invited to give a 5-minute oral presentation to a small panel via Teams. After discussing the presentations, the panel selected one winning poster for each category. The winners are:

"Reducing the carbon footprint of restaurants on campus" by Nell Saunders in the "Working life" category

and

"Coffee for the boss!" by Philippe Casanova in the "Consumption habits" category

The winners received a selection of organic and/or fair trade products.

You can check out the winning posters and all the posters submitted to the 2021 Sustainable Development Challenge here.

The Sustainable Development Department would like to run this challenge again in 2022, so you can already start discussing ideas and thinking about what to put on your poster for next year. See here for instructions and guidelines .
