On June 10, the Institut Pasteur had the honor and pleasure of welcoming a further delegation from the French Parliamentary Office for Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Options (OPECST), led by its chairman Cédric Villani.
The visit, part of OPECST's work to inform the choices of the French Parliament in the area of science and technology, focused on COVID-19 research, emerging diseases and neuroscience.
The delegation, composed of French MPs Cédric Villani, Jean-Luc Fugit and Gérard Leseul and senators Catherine Procaccia and Ludovic Haye, as well as advisors Quentin Delacour (National Assembly) and Aurélien Adenot (Senate), was welcomed by the Institut Pasteur President Stewart Cole and Scientific Director Christophe D’Enfert.
After discussions on the latest news related to the current pandemic situation, and an introduction by Stewart Cole, the delegation heard two scientific presentations respectively by Philippe Bastin, Head of the Trypanosome Cell Biology Unit, on "Tackling vector-borne diseases: a 21st century challenge" as part of the Darré-Borrel project, followed by Jean-Baptiste Masson, Head of the Decision and Bayesian Computation five-year group, on "Decisions in complex environments: from Alzheimer larvae to surgical planning."
The delegation then visited the National Reference Center (CNR) for Respiratory Infection Viruses and the P2M platform respectively in the company of Sylvie van der Werf, Head of the National Reference Center and Vincent Enouf, her Deputy, and Head of the P2M.
