Epidemiological studies in Crépy-en-Valois: a conference between scientists and study participants

On Wednesday March 16, the participants in the studies conducted by the Institut Pasteur in Crépy-en-Valois for the past two years were invited to a lecture by Arnaud Fontanet, the scientific coordinator of the epidemiological studies on COVID-19 carried out in collaboration with the population of the town, which was affected very early on by the pandemic (see the newsletters of May 5, 2020 and June 26, 2020).

Arnaud Fontanet spoke about the timeline of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus since December 2019, before outlining the current situation and offering predictions on how the epidemic will develop over the next few months. The event was also an opportunity to show how the participants in the studies in Crépy-en-Valois – students from primary, middle and secondary schools and their families – had contributed to advances in science. Over the past two years, nearly 3,000 people took part in the studies, and 905 of them are continuing to be monitored for the ongoing COVID-Oise study in Crépy-en-Valois. The participants include:

723 individuals from the families in Crépy-en-Valois and the surrounding towns;

107 professionals and 75 residents/patients from care homes and the town's Saint-Lazare hospital.

The event provided an opportunity for the town's representatives to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who helped advance research at global level: the children and adults who gave their time to take part in the study, the Institut Pasteur's teams and the medical teams from the hospital in Crépy-en-Valois for their dedication, and the town employees who lent their support, especially the Crépy-en-Valois technical and communication departments.
