Embracing corporate social responsibility at the start of this new academic year

The 2025 academic year is getting off to a strong start on campus – two important events on corporate social responsibility (CSR) have already taken place and a third is coming up.

Pasteur, Tomorrow – Living with foxes and crows

On September 9, the Institut Pasteur hosted a new session in its "Pasteur, Tomorrow" lecture series. In this latest lecture, intriguingly titled "Towards peaceful cohabitation with foxes and crows," Frédéric Jiguet, a professor at the French Natural History Museum, and Marie-Lan Taÿ Pamart, author of La Femme Corneille (Futuropolis, 2023), invited participants to take a fresh look at our relationship with the living world.

The discussions, which alternated between serious and more light-hearted topics, showed that it is possible to live in harmony with species often thought of as "common pests." This was a great opportunity for collective reflection, perfectly in line with the aims of Pasteur, Tomorrow: reconsidering our practices and opening up new horizons on the major CSR challenges of the future.

Sustainable Mobility Day, Bike to the Future and publication of the 2025 Cycling Barometer by the FUB (French Federation of Bicycle Users) – Getting moving to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions!

On September 16, the campus embraced Sustainability Mobility Day, organized in connection with European Mobility Week. The aim was to raise awareness of sustainable mobility among Institut Pasteur staff and to promote the initiatives led on campus.

Program:

  • Checks/maintenance for 29 bikes

  • "Bicycode marking" for 7 bikes

  • Advice, guidance and recommendations from the CSR Department, the Real Estate and Technical Department and the Mobility section in the GreenTeam to promote safe sustainable mobility for daily commuting and business travel

  • There was a particular focus on the efforts of the cycling section in the CSE to promote cycling: weekly repair workshops, fostering cooperation among cyclists, installation of a public bike pump and repair stand, guidance and expertise for suitable infrastructure for campus (contact: sectionvelo@pasteur.fr).

These achievements are part of the broader approach pursued by the Institut Pasteur's CSR Department, recognized back in June with the award of the bronze medal in the "Objectif Employeur Pro Vélo" (Becoming a Pro-Cycling Employer – OEPV) program and European Cycle-Friendly Employer certification. A welcome reward for our collective efforts, which encourages us to go further!

To help develop a program of bike-friendly initiatives for 2026, in collaboration with the CSR Department and its cycling officer, we are asking you to share your needs by taking part in the upcoming survey "Getting (back) on your bike or keeping pedaling," coming soon.

Bike to the Future: results

Alongside Sustainable Mobility Day, the "Bike to the Future" challenge was held in September and proved to be a great success among cyclists at the Institut Pasteur! The aim was simple: to pedal as much as possible, together, from September 15 to 28, 2025, to promote non-motorized transport and change attitudes! And the results are in: the Institut Pasteur was in the top 50 of companies with more than 500 employees (49th out of 278), with 9,694 points and 3,848km covered by bike, by 49 participants out of a total of 165 who registered.

Well done and thank you to all those who took part!

Save the date: Sustainable Food Day – October 16

The next major CSR event is Sustainable Food Day, which will be held on Wednesday October 16.

The day will include workshops, tastings, a quiz and demonstrations to raise awareness of the environmental and health-related impacts of what we eat. This is also a chance to find out about the initiatives on campus – short food supply chains, efforts to tackle waste, recycling and composting – and get to know our new restaurant service providers (Foodles and Api) and other committed partners.

The day will be an enjoyable opportunity to reflect, learn and enjoy good food together!
