A look back in pictures at the "Narrative Microscopy – science through the lens of design" exhibition
The exhibition "Narrative microscopy – science through the lens of design" was held from September 13 to 20 at Césure (Paris) with the presentation of work from two cohorts of students on the DNMADe (National Diploma in Fine Arts, Crafts and Design) eco-friendly object design program at François Mansart high school (Saint-Maur des Fossés). The students were hosted by the Institut Pasteur in 2024 and again this spring, under the supervision of professor and designer Zoé Tracq and several designers and artists including Lisa Dehove, who works on projects in scientific outreach and support for innovation through research.
During a week in 2024, twelve students were hosted by the museum team, particularly Emma Leprêtre, to showcase the Institut Pasteur museum's collections. A year later, Timothée Bruel, a scientist in the Virus and Immunity Unit, and Elric Esposito, research engineer in the Photonic BioImaging Core Facility, repeated the experience with a new cohort of 19 students for a week-long immersive and creative project on campus to explore the material potential of making scientific images.
"This student artist residency program was a great success for both the scientists and students. I’d like to thank everyone on campus who took part."
Timothée Bruel
"Working with these students was a very rewarding experience. Their fresh and creative approach to the museum collections brought novel perspectives, combining design and science with unique artistic sensitivity. This collaboration not only enhanced our collections, but also strengthened the dialog between art, design and research, opening up stimulating avenues for scientific outreach."
Emma Leprêtre
"This experience highlighted the educational value of a scientific platform. The students' perspectives and the works they produced offer an unconventional take on the images produced on a daily basis. This dialogue was very intellectually stimulating, and Tim and Zoe's enthusiasm is highly contagious. Thank you."
Elric Esposito
