2026 National Bioethics Consultation: "Health in overseas territories: populations, environment, research" – seminar on April 28
The National Consultative Ethics Committee for health and life sciences (CCNE) is organizing a seminar with the Institut Pasteur, the French Agricultural Research Center for International Development (CIRAD) and the French Research Institute for Development (IRD) in connection with the 2026 National Bioethics Consultation, on the topic: “Health in overseas territories: populations, environment, research.”
The National Bioethics Consultation is a collective initiative to encourage nationwide reflection, organized by the CCNE in application of the French Bioethics Act. The process brings together all parts of society – citizens, health professionals, researchers, associations and institutions – to participate in a democratic debate on the major scientific, medical, environmental and societal transformations that are raising questions about our relationship with health and the living world and our responsibilities to those around us.
France's overseas territories face specific health challenges linked to their geographical, demographic, socio-economic and environmental characteristics. The aim of this seminar, which will include a series of round tables and discussions, is to explore issues such as the importance of local populations in health policies, the links between human, animal and environmental health, and how research projects can be adapted to address these questions. The event will be held in hybrid format with remote participation to encourage the involvement of people living in overseas territories while minimizing the environmental impact.
Speakers will include Ruddy Valentino (Martinique University Hospital), Sophien Horri (Reunion Island University Hospital), Stéphanie Mulot (CNRS), Rubis Lecoq (CNRS), Dolores Pourette (IRD), David Heard (French Biomedicine Agency), Olivier Hermine (Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital), Magali Jannoyer (CIRAD), Emmanuel Roux (MOSAIC), Dominique Rousset (Institut Pasteur in French Guiana), Mathieu Nacher (University of French Guiana) and André Cabié (Martinique University Hospital).
The seminar will be held on April 28, 2026 from 9.30am to 5pm at the reConnect Institute. It is particularly aimed at people involved in issues related to health care, public health and research in overseas territories. You can register by mailing to ethics@pasteur.fr.
This is a hybrid event that will be available via Teams so that people can attend remotely. The link will be sent to you upon registration.
