Drawing inspiration from Pasteurdon 2018 to launch the 2019 edition

On April 16, the Institut Pasteur welcomed its loyal TV and radio partners and representatives of the companies that have supported Pasteurdon for many years to an event in the OMICS buildings which included a look back at the 2018 edition and the launch of preparations for Pasteurdon 2019.

Institut Pasteur President Stewart Cole and Jean-François Chambon, Vice-President Communications and Fundraising, took this opportunity to thank the various partners on behalf of the Institut Pasteur for their ongoing support and commitment each year. They particularly mentioned the positive results of Pasteurdon 2018 – at a time when fundraising among individuals has slowed significantly for many charities and foundations. Over the weekend of the 2018 campaign, €2 million was raised, an impressive figure in this difficult context and a sum that will enable the Institut Pasteur to make a real difference as it continues to contribute to current and future progress in research and health.

With each new edition of Pasteurdon, it is crucial to continue raising awareness among the general public of the Institut Pasteur's role and to explain the vital health issues facing us now and in the future, so that as many people as possible will be inspired to give. Public generosity is more important than ever in light of the Institut Pasteur's ambition to give new impetus to basic research and increase the impact of this research on health challenges, as enshrined in its Strategic Plan.

During the event, François-Xavier Weill, Head of the Enteric Bacterial Pathogens research and expertise unit and the Escherichia coli, Shigella and Salmonella National Reference Center, presented his research, spoke about the synergy between research and public health, and emphasized the importance of gifts and donations from the public.

After these presentations, the dates of Pasteurdon 2019 were announced. This year's 13th edition will take place from October 10 to 13, with Alexandra Lamy once again stepping up as Pasteurdon patron for the 9th year in a row. The countdown is on!

This event spent looking back at Pasteurdon 2018 and launching preparations for Pasteurdon 2019 came to a close with a tour of the Biomics Platform from Marc Monot and a visit to the Structural Bioinformatics Unit alongside Michael Nilges, to give the guests first-hand experience of the Institut Pasteur's research.
