► Focus on: Horizon 2020 drafts

The first draft versions of the next work programs for Horizon 2020 are now available. These work programs cover the period 2018-2020, the final scientific period for Horizon 2020 before the EU introduces its next funding program.

The aim of these calls is to fund collaborative research projects involving several European or international teams. The calls for proposals are due to be officially launched in November 2017, leaving you with plenty of time to develop ambitious competitive programs with the guidance of the support services in the Department of Development. The first deadlines are expected to be in spring 2018.

If you are interested in coordinating a project, you may like to know that the ANR has set up a funding scheme to help coordinators develop their project (for example enabling them to organize brainstorming meetings with their partners). These applications are easy to prepare and should be submitted to the ANR in July 2017.

► Focus on: Call for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships

The European Commission has just opened its 2017 call for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships. The goal of this call is to boost career development for scientists by encouraging researcher mobility. Individual Fellowships are open to "experienced" researchers (typically post-doctoral fellows).

There are four types of grant:
• European Fellowships take place in a European Union Member State for a one- to two-year period.
• Global Fellowships involve a one- to two-year secondment to a non-EU country and a mandatory one-year return period in a European country.
• Reintegration Fellowships are aimed at researchers based in a non-EU country looking to move back to a research post in Europe.
• Career Restart Fellowships are aimed at researchers hoping to restart their research career in Europe after a break (such as parental leave).

For European and Global Fellowships, researchers must not have lived or worked in the future host country for more than 12 months over the past three years. The end of this three-year period is taken as being the closing date for the call.
