eLAB project – Institut Pasteur Electronic Laboratory Notebook

Institut Pasteur has been engaged, since 2018, in search for its future electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) tool.
Today, the IT department (ITD) and the scientific direction (SD) are pleased to inform you of this choice: the eLABJournal solution from the Dutch company Bio-ITech has been selected and will be deployed from April 2021

The implementation of such a tool is not only an imperative, a specific requirement from funders or industrial partners due to the changing nature and format of data, but it is also a technological opportunity in which all research institutes are engaged.

Carried out under the supervision of Christophe d’Enfert, scientific director of the Institut Pasteur and also sponsor of this project, the selection of this tool was based on the participation and contribution of the Institute's scientific staff.

Indeed, a hundred volunteer representatives were involved in all stages of the selection process: from the collection of the need to the experimentation during 6 months of two ELN solutions, to the final choice of the solution, made in March 2021.

The selection of the eLABJournal solution by the scientific staff is supported by the management of the Institut which ratified this choice on 24 March 2021.

The eLABJournal solution’s cost will be covered by the Institut Pasteur.

Besides the ELN part, this application offers LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) functionalities:

  • inventory management ;
  • stock management ;
  • equipment management.

It is :

a web application accessible from any computer via an Internet browser (PC, MAC, Android);

a tool that is quick to learn and very didactic;

an application that complies with the 21 CFR part 11 standards of the FDA (American Food and Drug Administration);

a solution offering a mobile application (Apple and Android).

•    Deployment of the solution:
The deployment of the eLABJournal solution will start at the end of April 2021 and will continue over the next two years. The aim is to offer this ELN to all research entities of the Institut Pasteur, which should be fully equipped by 2023.

•    First deployment phase in 2021: pilot research units and platforms

Deployment target for the year 2021: 50 units / platforms

To register your unit or platform now on the list of 50 voluntary entities and be assured of benefiting from the 2021 deployment: please contact us by email at elab@pasteur.fr.
