Sign up for the 2024 edition of the Institut Pasteur's microscopy course, "Principles and applications of fluorescence microscopy"

The Pasteur microscopy course 'Principles and Applications of Fluorescence Microscopy' 2024 will take place from the 11 to the 22 of March 2024, and the registration is open and will close on December the 15.

The use of fluorescence microscopy (wide field, confocal, multiphoton and superresolution) in combination with novel labeling strategies comprise a powerful set of scientific tools to study living cells. However, only a few practical and theoretical training courses exist on related topics within standard curricula. The 'Principles and Applications of Fluorescence Microscopy' course offers in-depth training in optics necessary to understand the basics of microscopes resolution and design. Participants will get hands-on experience implementing simple optical configurations to illustrate these fundamental principles.  Subsequently, participants will perform experiments on state-of-the-art imaging equipment provided by microscope vendors.

Lectures will cover the principles behind traditional high resolution imaging methods such as confocal, multi-photon, and the more recently developed super-resolutions methods. Students will also learn about fundamental properties of synthetic and genetically encoded fluorescence indicators used for cellular imaging. Introductory courses in bioimage analysis will cover the needs of the course for quantitative imaging purposes. Finally guest lectures will demonstrate applications of some of the discussed methodologies.
