Raising awareness and promoting health: in January, take part in the Dry January initiative with the Occupational Health and Prevention Department

The Occupational Health and Prevention Department (SPST) is committed to the health of Institut Pasteur staff, organizing a series of preventive initiatives throughout the year. After the "Pink October" and "Tobacco Cessation Month" campaigns carried out over the past few months, the department is inviting you to give your body a rest by taking part in the Dry January movement.

What is Dry January?

Dry January is a collective challenge with a simple principle: to give up alcohol for the entire month of January. The aim of this worldwide initiative is to encourage us to take a break in our consumption habits so that we gain a better understanding of their impact on our health and well-being.

Why take a one-month break? There are many benefits: an opportunity to reflect on your alcohol intake; better sleep quality; higher energy levels; cost savings; and a reduction in the long-term health risks associated with alcohol (cancer, heart disease, etc.).

If you like, you can spend a few minutes evaluating your alcohol intake

Taking part in Dry January means taking steps to look after your physical and mental health. So why not give it a try? If you are interested, we'll look forward to seeing you in January after the festive season!

Take part and receive support

The Occupational Health and Prevention Department is inviting staff to take up the challenge by registering on the website Take up the challenge | Dry January®. You will be supported throughout the month of January and will receive tips, inspiring testimonials and recipes for non-alcoholic cocktails!

On campus, the SPST will be organizing an awareness and discussion session to help you rise to the challenge:

on Thursday January 9, 2025, from 11.30am to 1.30pm, there will be an information stand in front of the company restaurant. The Occupational Health and Prevention teams will answer your questions, share practical advice and propose alternatives. You can chat to the team about your consumption habits and exchange practical tips.

Committed to your health

The Dry January initiative taking place on campus in January is one of a series of initiatives led by the Occupational Health and Prevention Department to support the Institut Pasteur community in adopting healthy practices. Over the last few months of 2024, these have included:

•    Pink October, to raise awareness and encourage screening for breast cancer.

•    Tobacco Cessation Month, to encourage people to cut down or quit smoking.

These campaigns illustrate the department's commitment to promoting long-term health for everyone. Dry January is also part of a broader strategy to tackle key topics such as preventing addiction, nutrition, mental health, sleep, etc. These initiatives, which will continue next year on campus, reflect a real desire to support each and every staff member in adopting practices that are good for their health.
