Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
" Dear all,
2021 has been another challenging year for the world.
In my year’s end video (click here), I cover three main topics: young scientists, the COVID-19 pandemic and the bicentenary of Pasteur’s birth.
On campus, the pandemic has impacted the careers of the graduate students and post-docs most, and I extend my sympathy and understanding to them. During the COVID-19 crisis, we have always prioritized wet work and we will continue to support our young scientists as best we can.
There is growing concern and much uncertainty about the future of the pandemic as the Delta variant is already in full swing and Omicron spreads rapidly. It is reassuring to note the huge protective effect of vaccines in preventing severe disease as evidenced by the 10-fold lower number of vaccinated individuals in hospital compared to those who chose not to protect themselves.
Louis Pasteur was born on December 27th, 1822, so it will soon be his bicentenary. To celebrate this, a raft of things is planned, ranging from a symposium on pandemics to a major scientific prize for work that best reflects the Pasteur mission.
In closing, I thank each and every one of you for your contributions to the success of Team Pasteur in 2021.
I wish you safe and peaceful Holidays and look forward to greeting you during our New Year ceremony, on January 11th.
Regards,"
Professor Stewart Cole
