Hearing Institute: preparations under way for teams to move to the new Institut Pasteur center

The establishment of the Hearing Institute was marked in September with a conference for the international scientific community. The research teams will move to the new premises in early 2020, following an official inauguration ceremony on February 27.

On December 3, the keys to the Hearing Institute were given to the Technical Resources and Environment Department so that the premises can be prepared and equipped to house the center's teams. The technical teams are currently finalizing the schedule for the move, which is due to take place in the first quarter of 2020 so that the center can be up and running in the second quarter.

The Hearing Institute was set up at the initiative of the Fondation Pour l'Audition and the Institut Pasteur to perform basic and translational interdisciplinary research in auditory neuroscience and human audiology. This new Institut Pasteur research center is determined to remove the silo mentality between research on the peripheral auditory system (the cochlea, the auditory sensory organ, and its innervation) and the auditory centers. It will build on this remarkable opportunity to develop new interfaces between basic and medical research and to foster a constant dialog between animal- and human-based research. The aim is to stimulate new discoveries on auditory perception and cognition and to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to hearing loss.

The Hearing Institute will be composed of leading scientific experts in the field of hearing, with a large team of international post-doctoral fellows and students serving as the cornerstone of the project.
