Celebration of the bicentenary of Louis Pasteur's birth: launch of a dedicated website showcasing Pasteurian values: pasteur2022.fr

The year 2022 will mark the bicentenary of the birth of Louis Pasteur, who was born on December 27, 1822. The Institut Pasteur, which proudly bears the name of its founder, is taking this opportunity to make 2022 a year of celebration and community-building and a chance to share Louis Pasteur's values and convictions.

The anniversary, which already features in the 2022 calendar of national commemorations produced by the "France Memory" department at the Institut de France, is a chance for the Institut Pasteur to celebrate the man and the scientist, while also conveying the values that he upheld – values that continue to represent a legacy which is proudly borne and shared by the entire Institut Pasteur community.

Several well-known figures, institutions and organizations are keen to join in paying tribute to Louis Pasteur, a chemist whose observational skills, curiosity, critical mind and perseverance guided him throughout a career defined by multiple discoveries in fields ranging from biology and agriculture to medicine and even hygiene, and culminating in the development of the rabies vaccine.

To organize the involvement of the scientists, artists, associations, local authorities and institutions that will be taking the opportunity of this commemorative event to showcase Pasteurian heritage alongside the Institut Pasteur, a general steering committee has been set up. Coordinated by the French Academy of Sciences (Pascale Cossart) with the Institut Pasteur (Stewart Cole, Christian Vigouroux, Olivier Schwartz, Maxime Schwartz, Jean-François Chambon and Erik Orsenna), its members include a number of prestigious partners: the École normale supérieure, the Institut Pasteur de Lille, the Académie française, the French National Academy of Medicine, the French Veterinary Academy and the French Academy of Agriculture.

A large number of initiatives, events and activities have already been given the committee's seal of approval for 2022, including lecture cycles, book publications, scientific, educational and cultural workshops, and a major closing conference which will take place on the Institut Pasteur campus in December 2022.

To boost the visibility of the bicentenary commemoration, the stakeholders involved and the various events on the agenda for 2022, the Institut Pasteur has created a dedicated website, pasteur2022.fr, which was officially launched this week.

The website features all the latest news, the full calendar of events and more general information about the bicentenary. You can also head to the website to find out more about Louis Pasteur the visionary and to read about the partners involved in the commemoration. The new website is a great showcase for the values and convictions that drove Louis Pasteur to carry out his research and serve public health. It creates a bridge between past and present, emphasizing the powerful momentum of a legacy that has been passed down from generation to generation and given new life by all the members of the Pasteurian community.

Check out the pasteur2022 website now! It will be regularly updated with information about the initiatives that will be organized to mark the commemoration of the bicentenary throughout 2022.

The newsletter team will provide you with regular updates of all the events related to the bicentenary of Louis Pasteur's birth.

A quality label has been specially designed for the bicentenary commemoration. The portrait of Louis Pasteur represented in this label was created specifically by the artist Fabrice Hyber.

The label will be accompanied by a user charter bringing together all the official communication tools and initiatives for the bicentenary.

You will see the label in the newsletter as soon as it starts publishing news items related to the bicentenary commemorations.
