AVATAR MEDICAL, winner of the EIC Accelerator: a new milestone reached in making medical imaging an integral part of surgical practice

AVATAR MEDICAL, a spin-off from the Institut Pasteur and the Institut Curie, two institutes accredited with the Carnot label, was announced as the winner of the European EIC Accelerator program on December 17, 2022. It will be awarded a €2.5 million grant. The aim of AVATAR MEDICAL is to make medical imaging an integral part of surgical practice by making it accessible to surgeons throughout the patient care pathway. Surgeons can use virtual reality to interact with the "avatars" of their patients so that they have a thorough understanding of the specific anatomy of each individual before an operation. Augmented reality is used to help guide their movements during the surgical procedure. The jury was convinced by the potential impact of the AVATAR MEDICAL solution on the development of less invasive procedures, quicker patient recovery times, and productivity in hospitals.
