Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
The next Start-up breakfast will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at 8:30 am via Teams with Jean-Baptiste Masson as guest.
Jean-Baptiste Masson is the principal investigator of the Decision and Bayesian Computation lab of the Department of Computational Biology in Institut Pasteur.
He is a theoretical physicist by training. Jean-Baptiste studied about “Ionics contrast terahertz imaging-Statistical Physics of Surface Plasmon-Polariton from Lab of Optic and Biosciences at École Polytechnique under the supervision of Guilhem Gallot during his PhD and he got his PhD in 2007. He has been working at Institut Pasteur as a permanent researcher since 2008.
He opened his lab in 2017. His research is focused on the algorithms and evolutionary computation to perform biological decision-making. He and his team study this topic with an interdisciplinary approach mixing statistical physics, Bayesian machine learning, information theory, and various experimental biological setups.
In 2020, Jean-Baptiste created a startup with his former postdoctoral fellow, Mohamed El Beheiry,. This startup called AVATAR MEDICAL leverages the DIVA technology (using virtual reality for the analysis of complex images) for the planning of surgical procedures. He and Mohamed El Beheiry are respectively CSO and CTO of the startup.
If you want to learn how to transform your research idea into a business and create your startup at Institut Pasteur, please come and learn from his know-how and experience.
