INCEPTION – New calls for proposals in 2019

The INCEPTION program (INstitut Convergence: Emergence of Pathology Through Individuals and PopulatiONs), supported by the call Institut Convergence des Investissements d'Avenir, is launching a call for the recruitment of PhD students in transversal and interdisciplinary projects aimed at understanding the emergence of pathologies in individuals and populations.
 
Search profiles
The selection of projects will be based on the following criteria :
• quality and interdisciplinary nature of the project
• scientific excellence of supervisors and host teams
• academic excellence of the student : good basic knowledge in biology, interest in life sciences and medical applications, solid training in the following fields : mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, social sciences
 
Application and eligibility
The selected projects should convene to main subjects of the INCEPTION program and should meet the following criteria:
• Interdisciplinary project on the emergence of pathologies, associating biology, medicine, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, social sciences ...
• the cross-cutting nature and its added value to respond to questions addressed in the project must be clearly demonstrated.
• co-supervision between two teams belonging to complementary fields of competence
• at least one project team must be affiliated with the Institut Pasteur (Paris); The other team (s) must be affiliated with one INCEPTION partner (including Institut Pasteur, see website).
 
The call is open to all Institut Pasteur units/teams and partner institutes (Institut Pasteur, INRA, PSL, APHP, CNG, INSERM, CNRS, Laboratoire SPHERE).

Procedure
The candidate for the allocation must send a single pdf document by April 1, 2019 to Inception-D2Icalls@pasteur.fr including:
• the summary of the file (1 page);
• detailed project (max 4 pages);
• the student CV (1 page), a letter of motivation (1 page), notes and rankings of M1 and M2;
• the CVs of the supervisors and presentations of their laboratories (1 page each);
• precise the doctoral school in which the candidate will be inscribed for his/her thesis.
Selected candidates and researchers will be interviewed by the steering committee of the INCEPTION program.
Results will be released after these interviews (beginning of July 2019).

  • INCEPTION- Call for Interdisciplinary Research Projects

The INCEPTION program (INstitut Convergence : Emergence of Pathology Through Individuals and PopulatiONs), supported by the call Institut Convergence des Investissements d'Avenir, is launching a call for collaborative, transversal and interdisciplinary projects aimed at understanding the emergence of pathologies through individuals and populations.

 
Fundings
250k € maximum for 2 years (human resources/running/equipment).
“Proof of Concept” project : 75k€ maximum for 1 year (human resources/running)

The call "Proof of Concept" is about ambitious and risky projects for which there are few preliminary results. The ambition of the project will have to be clearly demonstrated, relying notably on the literature. Depending on the results obtained, the beneficiaries will be able to claim a supplementary budget of up to  250k€ (an additional budget of € 175k€), given a balance sheet and a project complement. The jury may requalify in this category full projects that it considers too risky.
 
 Application and eligibility
• Interdisciplinary project on the emergence of pathologies, combining biology, medicine, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, social sciences ...
• The cross-cutting nature must be clearly demonstrated as well as its added value to answer the questions addressed in the project
• Collaboration between two or more units/ research teams in complementary areas of expertise
• One of the teams carrying the project must be affiliated with the Institut Pasteur (Paris); The other team (s) must be affiliated to one of the partners of INCEPTION (Institut Pasteur included)
• Projects may also include the participation of additional, unaffiliated teams in one of the INCEPTION partners. However, the budget allocated by INCEPTION will not cover the expenses of such partners for the implementation of the project.
 
The call is open to all Institut Pasteur units/teams and partner institutes (Institut Pasteur, INRA, PSL, APHP, CNG, INSERM, CNRS, Laboratoire SPHERE).

Submission procedure
Applications must include (maximum of 7 pages, including references, Arial font 11, single pdf document):
• A cover page with the title of the project, the teams involved and the principal investigators, a public summary of 200 words, the budget and its justification in the outline (1 page)
• The research project, including objectives, expected results, and the nature of the interdisciplinary collaboration (4 pages maximum)
• Presentation of the teams (1 page maximum)
• The budget request (1 page maximum)

Applications should be sent to Inception-P2Icalls@pasteur.fr. They will be evaluated by the INCEPTION steering committee with the help of international experts, for implementation on January, 1 2020.
