The Institut Pasteur and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations

On February 22 and 23, 2017, the Institut Pasteur hosted a meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Coalition for Epidemics Preparedness Innovation, CEPI.

CEPI is a new alliance between the public and private sectors and non-governmental organizations that aims to speed up the development of vaccines for emerging diseases that are safe, effective and accessible to the populations that need them most.

The Institut Pasteur has been a supporter of this initiative since its early days. It is a member of the CEPI Joint Coordination Group and Partners Forum, two bodies set up to create a framework for the community involved in the project and facilitate its development. The Institut Pasteur International Network is represented by Dr. Amadou Sall from the Institut Pasteur in Dakar, who has been appointed as a member of the CEPI Scientific Advisory Committee.

CEPI aims to stimulate, fund and coordinate the development of vaccines to prevent pathogens identified as representing the highest level of risk (as defined by WHO), especially in cases where the market is unlikely to provide a sufficient financial incentive for vaccine development.

CEPI held its first Scientific Community Meeting on February 20 and 21 in Paris. It also launched its first call for proposals to support the development of vaccines for the MERS-CoV, Lassa and Nipah viruses, from late preclinical stages to phase II clinical trials.
