  • New five-year units

Creation of the Anthropology and Ecology of Disease Emergence five-year unit (U5)

Following the favorable opinions issued by the Scientific Council in June 2019 and the Board of Directors in October 2019, the Anthropology and Ecology of Disease Emergence (Anthropologie et écologie de l'émergence des maladies) five-year unit (U5) was set up on January 1, 2020, for a non-renewable five-year term.

The unit is part of the Department of Global Health and will be directed by Tamara Giles-Vernick, a Director of Research at the Institut Pasteur.

Creation of the Archaeal Virology five-year unit (U5)

Following the favorable opinions issued by the Scientific Council in June 2019 and the Board of Directors in October 2019, the Archaeal Virology (Virologie des archées) five-year unit (U5) was set up on January 1, 2020, for a non-renewable five-year term.

The unit is part of the Department of Microbiology and will be directed by Mart Krupovic, a Director of Research at the Institut Pasteur.

• Creation of the Malaria Genetics and Resistance five-year unit (U5)

Following the favorable opinions issued by the Scientific Council in June 2019 and the Board of Directors in October 2019, the Malaria Genetics and Resistance (Génétique du paludisme et résistance) five-year unit (U5) was set up on January 1, 2020, for a non-renewable five-year term.

The unit is part of the Department of Parasites and Insect Vectors and will be directed by Didier Ménard, a Director of Research at the Institut Pasteur.

Creation of the RNA Biology of Influenza Virus five-year unit (U5)

Following the favorable opinions issued by the Scientific Council in June 2019 and the Board of Directors in October 2019, the RNA Biology of Influenza Virus (Biologie des ARN et virus influenza) five-year unit (U5) was set up on January 1, 2020, for a non-renewable five-year term.

The unit is part of the Department of Virology and will be directed by Nadia Naffakh, a CNRS Director of Research.

• Creation of the Innovation Lab: Vaccines

The Innovation Lab: Vaccines (Laboratoire d'innovation: vaccins) laboratory was set up on January 1, 2020, for a renewable two-year term.

The laboratory is part of the Department of Virology and is led by Frédéric Tangy. It is supported by the Institut Pasteur Innovation Accelerator (AIIP) and will develop innovative programs within this framework.

• Creation of the Bacteriophage, Bacterium, Host laboratory

The Bacteriophage, Bacterium, Host (Bactériophage, bactérie, hôte) laboratory was set up on January 1, 2020, for a renewable two-year term.

The laboratory is part of the Department of Microbiology and is led by Laurent Debarbieux. It is supported by the Institut Pasteur Innovation Accelerator (AIIP) and will develop innovative programs within this framework.

• Creation of the Pathogen Discovery laboratory

The Pathogen Discovery (Découverte de pathogènes) laboratory was set up on January 1, 2020, for a renewable two-year term.

The laboratory is part of the Department of Virology and is led by Marc Eloit. It is supported by the Institut Pasteur Innovation Accelerator (AIIP) and will develop innovative programs within this framework.

  • Recreation of the Epidemiology and Modeling of Bacterial Escape to Antimicrobials Unit

Following the favorable opinions issued by the Scientific Council in October 2019 and the Board of Directors in December 2019, the Pharmacoepidemiology and Infectious Diseases Unit (024514) in the Department of Global Health, which was led by Didier Guillemot and came to the end of its term on December 31, 2019, was recreated with the name Epidemiology and Modeling of Bacterial Escape to Antimicrobials (Epidémiologie et modélisation de la résistance aux antimicrobiens) on January 1, 2020.

The unit is set up for a first five-year term which will run through to December 30, 2024.

  • Appointment of the acting Head of the Ultrastructural BioImaging UTechS

Following Jacomine Krijnse-Locker's departure from the Institut Pasteur, Guillaume Dumenil was appointed as acting Head of the Ultrastructural BioImaging UTechS (021140) on January 1, 2020, for a one-year period.
