"Expect the unexpected" - video interviews of Dr. Anthony Fauci

During his visit to the Institut Pasteur, world-renowned infectious disease specialist and former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID, Maryland, USA), Professor Anthony S. Fauci, never stopped highlighting one key message: the next pandemic might be right around the corner.

In an exclusive interview session with the Department of Education, Dr. Fauci outlines the main lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and the rules we must keep in mind for tackling the next one. In particular, he highlights how miscommunication and inequity have been two of the main enemies of the pandemic response, implying that a lot more needs to be done to contrast these issues. This video interview will be featured in "Viral Outbreaks and Pandemics: a One Health approach", a MOOC by the Institut Pasteur and Université Paris Cité’s One Health – Emerging Infectious Diseases (1H-EID) Graduate School.

In a second video, targeting students and the next generation of scientists, Dr. Fauci addresses some key questions regarding the training scientists should receive for pandemic preparedness. In this video, recorded for the Graduate School 1H-EID, Dr. Fauci stresses the importance of multidisciplinary and transversal collaboration across disciplines, as well as the value of academic-industrial partnerships. In addition, he emphasizes that socioeconomic aspects and communication with the general public are also elements scientists should be trained on, in order to efficiently guide decision-makers towards an optimal public health outcome.
