"Introduction to electron microscopy" course on March 17

The Ultrastructural BioImaging Core Facility is organizing a one-day "Introduction to Electron Microscopy" course, in collaboration with the HR Development Department.

Developments in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) methods in recent years have revolutionized possibilities for imaging biological samples. The aim of this theoretical course is to provide information about the main imaging techniques. Participants will acquire the theoretical grounding they need to understand the different electron microscopy techniques and learn about the advantages and limits of each of them. At the end of the course, participants will be able to evaluate the potential of each technique and identify which is best to use for a given scientific project.

Date and time: Friday March 17, 2023, 9.30am to 5.30pm
Venue: Institut Pasteur
Language: French
Course costs covered by: The HR Skills Development Plan
Organizers: Ultrastructural BioImaging (UBI) Core Facility – Head: Adeline Mallet

Program:
•    Description of transmission and scanning electron microscopy (principles, in practice, applications)
•    Conventional and advanced methods for preparing biological samples (cryo-methods, immunolocalization, CLEM)
•    Introduction to cryo-electron microscopy
•    Description of 3D electron microscopy (serial sections, tomography, FIB-SEM)
•    Introduction to reconstruction, segmentation and 3D visualization
