DISABILITY

A look back at the charity BINOMES’ visit for an introduction to guide running with the Institut Pasteur’s running section

During the lunch break on Thursday January 23, a discovery session was held in the name of sport and sharing. The Institut Pasteur’s running section welcomed volunteers from the charity BINOMES (visually impaired individuals and guides) to introduce Institut Pasteur staff to a unique running session.

The charity BINOMES has launched a free no-strings-attached platform for pairing people with (visual or other) disabilities with volunteer guides to promote, support and organize shared sporting activities.

Once you have signed up, you are offered an introduction to guide running and can pair up with a partner:

This campus event follows on from Cécile Markarian’s commitment at the 2024 Paralympic Games triathlon events (see the January 10 issue of the newsletter), an experience that inspired her to take her sport and commitment further:

"After my volunteering experience at the para-triathlon events at the Paralympic Games, I wanted to learn more about being a guide runner. So I joined the charity BINOMES. I then contacted Gauthier Dulary in charge of the ASIP’s Running group to discuss the concept and he was immediately really keen to organize an introductory session".

During the session, Institut Pasteur staff had the chance to learn all about guide running. It was very rewarding in terms of both the sport itself and the human side of the experience. The goal was different this time because it was no longer about crossing the finish line of a race but supporting and guiding your partner to cross the line together.
