Upcoming "Creating your own company" session on Tuesday February 7

Following on from the 2016 sessions, this year the Education Department, the MAASCC welcome and support structure for contract researchers and the Research Applications and Industrial Relations Department will continue to run a monthly event offering scientists interested in business development the chance to meet a leading figure and entrepreneur in the area of biotechnology. The aim is to encourage those interested in setting up their own company.

This event, entitled "Creating your own company", takes the form of a breakfast meeting on the first Tuesday of each month.

The second 2017 session will take place on Tuesday February 7 from 8.30 to 10.30am in room 28-01-01A of the François Jacob building. The speaker will be Sjaak Deckers, who became Chief Executive Officer of G-Therapeutics two years ago.

Sjaak Deckers is the CEO of G-therapeutics, a start-up developing solutions to enables individuals with permanent spinal injuries to walk again. G-Therapeutics develops a therapy combining a spinal cord implant with neurostimulation and gravity-assisted training, to accelerate and augment functional recovery of people with spinal cord injury as well as to improve their quality of life. G-Therapeutics won the Hello Tomorrow Challenge in 2014, a start-up competition with more than 1000 competing companies.
Before leading G-Therapeutics, Sjaak Deckers had founded and headed Sapiens Steering Brain stimulation, a start-up specialized in deep brain stimulation technologies  until it was acquired by Medtronic in 2014 for $200 million.
