Sign up for the new edition of the "Emerging and Re-emerging Viruses" MOOC

Emerging and re-emerging viruses are among the major pathogenic agents behind recent epidemics, as seen in the recent episodes of Ebola, chikungunya, influenza, Zika, dengue, SARS and MERS and, just lately, COVID-19.

How do new human viruses emerge? What conditions favor re-emergence? Where do we stand with COVID-19?

To find out more, the online courses division is pleased to invite you to sign up for the third edition of the Emerging and Re-emerging Viruses MOOC, which will run from February 15 to April 15, 2022.

The MOOC is led by Jean-Pierre Vartanian and Pierre-Emmanuel Ceccaldi.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

-    identify the main viruses involved in viral emergence and re-emergence,

-    explain the molecular mechanisms and lifestyle changes underpinning viral emergence,

-    discuss surveillance and monitoring tools for emerging viruses,

-    describe the current COVID-19 pandemic from a virological and epidemiological perspective.

A chapter on COVID-19, recorded in April 2021, has been added to this MOOC. The MOOC was previously run in 2021 without moderation or the possibility of certification.

For this third edition, a sequence about SARS-CoV-2 variants (by Sylvie van der Werf) has been added. The third edition is open for certification in connection with the Institut Pasteur's online diploma in infectious diseases (DNM2IP, see below).
