Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
Following the emergence and spread of new variants characterized by a higher transmission rate, some changes have been made to the definition of a high-risk contact compared with the version dated November 16, 2020:
Any person who has come into direct face-to-face contact with a case at a distance of less than 2 meters, for any length of time, is now considered as a high-risk contact.
The infected person and his/her contacts should wear surgical masks as an effective protective measure.
In the absence of effective protective measures (surgical mask, minimum distance of 2 meters), the contact is considered to be at risk of contracting COVID-19.
High-risk contacts:
- Have shared the same living space as the confirmed or probable case;
- Have come into direct face-to-face contact with a case at a distance of less than 2 meters, for any length of time (e.g. a conversation, meal or physical contact). People encountered fleetingly in public spaces, even in the absence of a mask, are not considered as high-risk contacts;
- Have provided or received care or medical treatment;
- Have shared a confined space (office or meeting room, private vehicle, etc.) for at least 15 minutes (either in one go or in total within 24 hours) with a case or remained face to face with a case during several coughing or sneezing fits
