Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
Following on from the 2016 sessions, this year the Education Department, the MAASCC welcome and support structure for contract researchers and the Research Applications and Industrial Relations Department will continue to run a monthly event offering scientists interested in business development the chance to meet a leading figure and entrepreneur in the area of biotechnology. The aim is to encourage those interested in setting up their own company.
This event, entitled "Creating your own company", takes the form of a breakfast meeting on the first Tuesday of each month.
The first 2017 session will take place on Tuesday January 10, 2017, from 8.30 to 10.30am in room 28-01-01A, François Jacob building. The speaker will be Benjamin Carlu.
Benjamin Carlu is the President and co-founder of Usine IO, an innovative company created in 2014 that offers projects leaders:
- access to an industrial hub of 1500 sq. meters in Paris which comprises all required tools and machines to create prototypes (training courses to learn how to use the machines are proposed)
- a professional supervision by industrial experts
- access to a network of subcontractors
Usine IO aims at enabling project leaders to rapidly develop a prototype of their project / invention. Created in 2014, Usine IO has already helped developing more than 350 prototyping projects in various fields (electronics, design, mechanics, etc.).
Usine IO is also a major part of the Pasteur Fab Lab, which was set up as a result of collaboration between the Technical Department and the Citech to offer prototyping capabilities to scientists on campus.
Benjamin Carlu, trained as an engineer, also founded three start-ups on solar panels (in 2005), flipbooks (in 2009) and 3D image storage in 2010.
