In line with UNESCO’s goals to encourage research, foster scientific expertise for sustainable development and promote capacity-building in science and innovation, the UNESCO International Prize for Research in the Life Sciences rewards projects and activities conducted by individuals, institutions or other entities with a view to improving the quality of human life.
At the end of 2015, the third edition of the prize was awarded to Amadou Alpha Sall, Scientific Director of the Institut Pasteur in Dakar and Head of the WHO Collaborating Center for Arboviruses and Hemorrhagic Fever, for his outstanding contribution to the development and dissemination of diagnostic and control tools for viral diseases such as Ebola, chikungunya, dengue and other vector-borne diseases with potential global impact.
