Carla Saleh has been appointed acting Director of the Department of Virology from July 1 to October 31, 2025.

* Re-establishment of the Antibodies in Therapy and Pathology Unit

Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in March 2025, in July 2025 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to re-establish the Antibodies in Therapy and Pathology Unit, keeping the same name, as from August 1, 2025.

This unit is part of the Department of Immunology and will be led by Pierre Bruhns.

The unit has been re-established for a ten-year period with an interim assessment by the Scientific Council after a first five-year term.

* Re-establishment of the Membrane, Cytoskeleton and Cell Division Unit

Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in March 2025, in July 2025 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to re-establish the Membrane Traffic and Cell Division Unit, changing its name to Membrane, Cytoskeleton and Cell Division, as from August 1, 2025.

This unit is part of the Department of Cell Biology and Infection and will be led by Arnaud Echard.

The unit has been re-established for a ten-year period with an interim assessment by the Scientific Council after a first five-year term.

* New Anthropology and Ecology of Disease Emergence Unit

The Anthropology and Ecology of Disease Emergence five-year unit (U5), led by Tamara Giles-Vernick, came to the end of its term and was closed on July 31, 2025.

Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in March 2025, in July 2025 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to establish the Anthropology and Ecology of Disease Emergence Unit as from August 1, 2025.

This unit is part of the Department of Global Health and will be led by Tamara Giles-Vernick.

The unit has been established for a ten-year period with an interim assessment by the Scientific Council after a first five-year term.

* New Cell Biology and Virology of Archaea Unit

The Archaeal Virology five-year unit (U5), led by Mart Krupovic, came to the end of its term and was closed on July 31, 2025.

Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in March 2025, in July 2025 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to establish the Cell Biology and Virology of Archaea Unit as from August 1, 2025.

This unit is part of the Department of Microbiology and will be led by Mart Krupovic.

The unit has been established for a ten-year period with an interim assessment by the Scientific Council after a first five-year term.

* New RNA Biology of Influenza Virus Unit

The RNA Biology of Influenza Virus five-year unit (U5), led by Nadia Naffakh, came to the end of its term and was closed on July 31, 2025.

Following the favorable opinion issued by the Scientific Council in March 2025, in July 2025 the Board of Governors approved the proposal by the President to establish the RNA Biology of Influenza Virus Unit as from August 1, 2025.

This unit is part of the Department of Virology and will be led by Nadia Naffakh.

The unit has been established for a ten-year period with an interim assessment by the Scientific Council after a first five-year term.
