Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
Research conducted by the startup Eligo Bioscience, published in the prestigious journal Nature, has enabled scientists to precisely edit the genome of microbiome bacteria directly in the gut of a mouse model. David Bikard, Head of the Institut Pasteur's Synthetic Biology laboratory and co-founder and scientific adviser of Eligo Bioscience, is the co-author of this publication entitled "In situ targeted base editing of bacteria in the mouse gut". The research opens up new prospects for understanding how bacterial genes influence health and developing targeted gene therapies for microbiome-related diseases.
