  • Introduction to histology and immunohistology techniques

The HR Training Center and the Histology Platform are pleased to announce the "Introduction to histology and immunohistology techniques" course (initially due to take place in April and postponed):

Aims:
· Acquire a basic knowledge of histology and an understanding of the sample preparation process
· Learn about the principles of histology and the key stages in each histology technique
· Understand the techniques of immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence

Date (length): September 13-17, 2021 (17 hours 30)

  • Image Processing for Electron Microscopy - Tomography (IPEMtomo)

The first Institut Pasteur practical course on Image Processing for Electron Microscopy focused on Tomography will be held on October during four days, on 18-20 & 22nd, 2021.

Electron tomography combined with image processing is one of the most powerful techniques for studying cellular details in 3D. In situ studies can reveal additional important information about macromolecules in their complex environment and adopted conformations.

This course aims to introduce basic concepts in image analysis and practical experience in tomographic reconstructions for different needs: single and dual-axis room temperature tomography, processing of low-dose tilt series with and without fiducials and 3D volume rendering (with Thermo Fisher Amira software). Special requirements during reconstruction for subsequent subtomogram analysis will be discussed.

The course is aimed at PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, engineers and researchers who have some experience in EM and would like to use electron tomography in the near future. Applicants who already have tilt-series for processing will be prioritized. Participants will become autonomous and able to apply what they have learnt in their projects.

  • Biology for non-biologists (BNB): upcoming sessions in 2021

The Biology for non-biologists (BNB) course is geared towards support staff and research unit assistants, with the aim of improving their understanding of scientists' working environments and familiarizing them with the main topics under study at the Institut Pasteur. Since it was introduced in 2017, the course has been attended by nearly 250 staff members.

In light of the 2020 health context, which led to a pause in BNB sessions, two further sessions will be held in autumn 2021:

- Monday sessions: September 13 to October 11 (5 consecutive Mondays): 8 spaces remaining

- Wednesday sessions: September 15 to October 13 (5 consecutive Wednesdays): 2 spaces remaining

Following the course, a "Post-BNB Program" will offer activities such as a tour of the insectarium, lectures and practical work in the Education Center.

We would warmly encourage you to sign up to find out more about the challenges and day-to-day workings of research at the Institut Pasteur.
