The Institut Pasteur joins forces with Medicen Paris Region to support the development of start-ups in life sciences

On July 6 and 7, 2017, the Institut Pasteur and Medicen Paris Region, Europe's leading competitiveness cluster in the field of health, ran a Summer School on company start-up in the area of life sciences. For this second edition, around 30 experienced speakers – entrepreneurs, investors and consultants – provided training for 70 students, PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, scientists and engineers interested in starting their own business.

The speakers, who represented all aspects of company start-up – serial entrepreneurs, the head of BPI investment bank, business angels, investors, legal experts, sales representatives and directors of business incubators and competitiveness clusters –, shared their expertise with participants. Top professionals including Philippe Pouletty (co-founder and Managing Partner of Truffle Capital and co-founder and Board member of Pharnext, Abivax and Carmat), David Sourdive (co-founder of Cellectis) and Stéphanie Marrus (Director of the Entrepreneurship Center at the University of California, San Francisco) described their own experiences. At the end of the event, participants were offered the chance to take part in a micro-coaching session, where they were given personalized advice from the speakers. Topics covered included the early stages in launching a start-up, the search for initial and follow-on funding and the vital role of teams in the company start-up process.
