Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
Since 2004, the young researchers program, developed by the Arbre des Connaissances organization, has given middle- and high-school students a chance to familiarize themselves with scientific research. They are supervised by Institut Pasteur scientists as they work on a scientific project over several months.
On June 4, the Conference for Young Researchers was held to bring this year's edition to a close. For a one-year period, pairs of students (one from middle school and one from high school) were plunged into laboratory life, guided by scientists. They learned about experimental procedures and explored a variety of subjects, such as research on malaria or SARS-CoV-2.
This year, for the 16th year in a row, the Institut Pasteur hosted 19 young researchers. The program is beneficial for everyone involved:
• Students gain confidence and develop critical thinking skills, and they can also make use of the experience for their exams or university applications.
• Supervisors get the opportunity to share their passion and improve their teaching skills. PhD student can also gain credits.
• For the Institut Pasteur, it is a chance to consolidate its commitment to scientific outreach.
The program is supported by the Department of Education. Year after year, the department remains dedicated to developing scientific vocations and strengthening links between science and society.
