Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
After a change to the initial schedule, make sure you don't miss Alain de Chalvron's report on following the mosquito trail, which will be shown during the magazine show presented by Laurent Delahousse on Sunday June 18 at 1.15pm on France 2.
Alain de Chalvron and his camera crew followed writer and avid traveler Erik Orsenna, Ambassador of the Institut Pasteur and the Institut Pasteur International Network, on his journey to find out more about these insects whose bites can spread so many diseases. Follow him on his travels around the world and watch as he meets and talks to many of the Institut Pasteur's scientific experts in this field.
The report comes at a timely moment, as Didier Fontenille, Director of the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia, explains: "Aedes albopictus has once again become very active in mainland France, the dengue virus is still circulating in Reunion Island, and in Cambodia, where we are based, the number of cases of dengue is going up every week." Didier Fontenille, who is featured in the report, also edited the recently published book Entomologie médicale et vétérinaire.
As a source of both fascination and fear, mosquitoes seem set to be the focus of headlines and research efforts for many years to come.
