Transparency charter on animal research: initial assessment after one year

The aim of providing the general public with more transparent information about the ways in which animals are used in research is to break down preconceptions about the topic as far as possible.

That is why the Institut Pasteur signed France's first transparency charter on the use of animals in research, together with a number of partners, in February 2021.

The transparency charter, launched on the initiative of the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation and coordinated by Gircor, is structured around four commitments:

1. To explain the reasons and conditions for using animals for scientific and regulatory purposes

2. To provide information to the general public and the media

3. To ease information flow with the general public and the media

4. To produce an annual document outlining the progress regarding public information

In response to the fourth commitment, the first report on the Charter was published on June 13.
