Results of the mobility survey: how did you commute to work and travel for business trips in 2022?

In connection with the renewal of the Institut Pasteur's mobility plan, a new mobility survey was run from March 24 to May 15, 2023.

The Sustainable Development Department would like to thank all Institut Pasteur staff who took part in the survey: 893 questionnaires were submitted, 716 of which had been fully completed (an increase of 18.7% compared with 2019). This marked increase in participation reflects how important mobility is as an issue for staff.

Some results which particularly stood out:

•   92% of survey participants live in the Greater Paris region, 33% of them in Paris itself.

•   96.5% (92% in 2019) use non-motorized transport (cycling, walking, etc.) or public transport.

•   57% (72% in 2019) are happy with transport conditions.

•   18% (7.2% in 2019) cycle and 60% (58% in 2019) are happy with the cycle parking facilities. Like in 2019, a significant number of people requested an increase in the number of covered cycle parking spaces.

•   40% work from home on a weekly basis, compared with 35% who do not work from home.

•   45% (39% in 2019) do not go on business trips.

The main issues identified in the survey regarding travel to work were personal safety, engineering works and the poor quality of public transport.

Increasing and promoting transport with low greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, especially by reducing the cost, and working from home are some of the solutions proposed by staff who took part in the survey to reduce the impact of traveling to work and business travel.
