Bulletin interne de l'Institut Pasteur
From June 27 to 29, 2023, scientists from a wide range of disciplines, international government representatives, leaders of research funding bodies and many more people will assemble in Paris for two events on the topic "Fundamental Life Science Meets Climate, Environment and Sustainability." They will discuss the way in which basic research in life science can play a key role in developing solutions in the area of climate change and sustainability.
The United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda identifies climate change, biodiversity, oceans, health and other sustainable development goals as major challenges in the 21st century. Thorough scientific understanding is key to developing the policies and solutions humanity needs for the transition to a sustainable future. However, scientific communities often fail to work together to address these challenges. This is especially true of basic life science, which has tended to be excluded from the sustainability discourse – discussions have traditionally been the preserve of environmental science.
The two events are organized by the Human Frontier Science Program, with its partners: the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, the French National Center for Scientific Research, the French National Research Agency, the French Academy of Sciences, the Institut Pasteur, UNESCO, the International Science Council, the European Research Council, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and the UN International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD).
The event is free but prior registration is required.
