Collaboration with UCSF QBI: Institut Pasteur establishes presence in USA

A delegation from the Institut Pasteur, comprising various members of the Senior Management Board and several scientists, visited San Francisco the week of February 28 to March 2, 2023, to present a series of scientific and diplomatic events and workshops that provided an overview of the Institut Pasteur-UCSF QBI partnership (Institut Pasteur-University of California, San Francisco, Quantitative Biosciences Institute). These events also served to promote the establishment of a Center of Excellence between San Francisco and Paris for the study of emerging infectious diseases.

•    Initial highlights of the American trip involved a scientific symposium that brought researchers from the Institut Pasteur, UCSF and QBI together on the topic of emerging infectious diseases, and a visit to meet the research teams, laboratories and startups located on the UCSF campus.

•    Another important stop for the delegation was the meeting with students at the Lycée français in San Francisco for a hands-on workshop organized in collaboration with the school's biology teachers and the inauguration of the exhibition celebrating the bicentenary of Louis Pasteur's birth. Following on from this, the Institut Pasteur representatives took part in a fundraising evening at the Residence de France, attended by the Consul.

During the several-day visit, meetings were also arranged with the French-American Chamber of Commerce, the French Embassy in the United States and the French Consulate in San Francisco on scientific and economic cooperation in the fields of bioscience and biotechnologies. These meetings helped position the Center of Excellence in the local landscape and provided the opportunity to discuss the organization of future joint events.
