New campus access control system and distribution of badges

Reminder: As part of the security master plan that is currently being rolled out on campus by the Technical Resources and Environment Department, a new computerized access control system will soon be introduced for the entire Paris campus. The work involved in installing this system will run from March 27 to August 31, 2017. Existing badge readers will be replaced by new ones. New badge readers will also be installed at some entrances which did not previously have access control systems. Some of the new readers will include biometric verification systems to control access to the BSL2+ and BSL3 laboratories.

This changeover to a more modern, secure system means that all staff have to be given new badges. This process is now in its final stages, and the new badges will be available for all staff to collect between March 20 and 23. Over these days, you can collect your new badge from the hall of CIS. You will also be given a pouch with two pockets where you can store both your old badge and your new badge. You will need to keep both badges to hand throughout this transitional period in which both access control technologies will still be in use. You can use the pouch with both badges in without having to take them out individually each time.

Please make sure you keep your old badge until August 31 – you will need it to access areas that haven't yet been modernized and still have the old badge readers. You will be required to hand in your old badge at the end of the upgrade work. You should use your new badge at access control points where new readers have already been fitted.

The first buildings where new readers will be installed are Emile Duclaux (1-2-3-4) and François Jacob (26-27-28). The work is expected to last between 30 and 45 days.

Please note:

Collect your new badges from March 20 to 23, 2017

  • Monday 20 : from 2:00 to 4pm
  • Tuesday 21 : from 11am to 1pm
  • Wednesday 22 : from 11am to 1pm and from 2:00 to 4pm
  • Thrusday 23 : from 11am to 1pm and from 2:00 to 4pm

Those absent and unable to collect the badge during the week of March 20 - 23, can present themselves at the 25 reception area starting on Monday, March 27 between 10 am and 4 pm.

People who entered the Institut Pasteur after December 10, 2016 are not affected by this distribution. Specific information will be sent to them shortly so that they can retrieve their new badge on time.

What can I use the new badge for?

Your new badge does all the same things as your old badge. You can use it to:
- access the Institut Pasteur site and any areas with internal access control,
- access the Scientific Information Resources Center (CeRIS) and borrow items,
- access the staff restaurant and pay for food and drinks purchased there.

FAQ

  • If you hold your badge up to the reader after taking it out of the pouch and it doesn't work, this may be for one of the following reasons:

- you may be using the old badge with a new reader. This will not work – you will need to use the new badge.
- you may be using the new badge with an old reader. This will not work – you will need to use the old badge.
- if you are sure that you are using the correct badge, either the reader isn't working properly (flashing red LED) – in which case you should report it for repair by calling 9333 – or you may simply not be authorized to access that area.

  • What should I do if I lose my old badge?

Go to the Institut Pasteur reception at the 25, rue du Docteur Roux entrance so that they can provide you with a replacement old badge.

  • Will I lose the credit for the staff restaurant that was on my old badge?

Absolutely not! Any money you put on your badge is actually recorded in the staff restaurant database, so there's no need to transfer the money from one badge to another.

  • How should I go about handing in my old badge?

The process will be similar to the distribution process for the new badges: you will be notified of a week when you will be able to hand your old badge into the reception desk staff at the 25, rue du Docteur Roux entrance.
