•    Reminder of guidelines about protecting staff and personal data during business travel abroad

Following the strengthening of border controls by some countries, especially recently for entering the United States, it is important to be prudent and adopt basic safety precautions when traveling abroad. These are set out in the guide available on ePasteur.

We would particularly draw your attention to the importance of adopting a cooperative attitude and on guidelines regarding portable electronic equipment (computers and smartphones) if you are subject to controls by immigration authorities when you arrive in a foreign country. The best solution (as constantly recommended by the Delegate for Safety and Security and the Head of Information Systems Security when it comes to protecting scientific and technical potential and information systems security) is to travel with a professional smartphone and/or laptop specifically for use during your assignment, and to remove all messages and sensitive documents from them before you travel.

We would remind you that when entering a foreign country for work missions you remain under the authority of the host country, regardless of your situation (visa, green card, etc.). Any infringements of the safety rules imposed by local authorities may lead them to issue a deportation order, resulting in a temporary ban on entry into that country.

If your IT and communication equipment is seized, even if only temporarily, you should inform the French consular authorities and the Delegate for Safety and Security at the Institut Pasteur and email a description of what has happened to protect@pasteur.fr..
