Next Monday, March 12 the StaPa is organizing the workshop: How to achieve equality in science. To celebrate the International Day of Women’s Rights and raise awareness of gender issues in science, this workshop was designed to focus on actions for equality and how these actions can affect your career. A team of experts will be there to present their work and opinions on how to raise awareness and ameliorate the gender (in) equality in science.
Claudine Hermann, Honorary Professor at Ecole Polytechnique, co-founder of the Femmes & Sciences (Women and Science) association and President of the European Platform of Women Scientists EPWS, will present: "Towards equality in science: European and French contexts and actions".
L. Anathea Brooks member of the UNESCO SAGA (STEM and gender advancement) project steering committee, will present "Advancing women in science: UNESCO perspectives".
Marina Kvaskoff permanent researcher at Inserm and Board Member of the French association Femmes & Sciences, will present "Mentoring programs for young women scientists"
The workshop will also have a round table where you will have the opportunity to listen to the stories and opinions of women that succeeded in their career here in Pasteur. The round table "Gender balance and career: Is gender bias really there?" will also give you the opportunity to discuss (in presence of Muriel Delepierre, Hilde de Reuse and Fabrizia Stavru) how this gender (in)balance in science can affect your career and to get advice on how to overcome these issues.
The workshop will take place from 2:00-5:00pm at Amphitheater Emile Duclaux with a cocktail at the end to encourage more exchanges about the subject in a more informal environment.
"In recognition of the International Day of Women’s Rights, the Institut Pasteur would like to join the worldwide celebration of women’s achievements in general, but particularly those in the field of scientific research. We are proud to have among us today, as well as throughout our history, many groundbreaking women who exemplify scientific excellence, not least among them Nobel prize-winner Françoise Barré-Sinoussi.
The Institut Pasteur would like to participate in raising awareness of women’s rights as well as to challenge stereotypes and biases so that all individuals, regardless of gender, can fully apply their talents to the service of science and to the missions of our institute.
The Institut Pasteur is committed to promoting gender parity in science. The rights of women should be addressed daily and we are aware that there is still progress to be made. We believe that, as a community, we have a key role and responsibility in closing the gender gap for the benefit of science.
As an excellent example of a community initiative to address these issues, I would like to bring to your attention next week’s StaPa, the Institut Pasteur's association for young researchers, seminar, “How to achieve equality in science”.
With best regards,"
